- JEE Main expects a recent passport-format colour photograph — commonly quoted as 3.5 × 4.5 cm — with a file size between 10 KB and 200 KB in JPEG.
- The background must be plain and light; the candidate's face should be clearly visible with both ears shown where possible.
- The signature must be in running hand with a black/blue pen on white paper — block capital signatures are rejected.
- Signature images are also accepted in the 10–200 KB window; keep proportions close to 3.5 × 1.5 cm.
- Polaroid or computer-composed photos are not acceptable; the photo must match the candidate at the exam centre.
- NTA revises specs each cycle — always confirm with the current JEE Main information bulletin.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the required photo size for JEE Main?
NTA's JEE Main application asks for a recent passport-format colour photograph (commonly 3.5 × 4.5 cm) between 10 KB and 200 KB in JPEG format. The equivalent at 300 DPI is 413 × 531 pixels, which this preset produces.
Which pixel dimensions should I use — 413 × 531 or something else?
NTA specifies physical size (cm) and file weight (KB) rather than exact pixels. 413 × 531 px at 300 DPI maps to the traditional 3.5 × 4.5 cm passport format; if the portal mandates specific pixels instead, type them in the custom fields.
Is 10 KB too small to be sharp for JEE Main?
At 10 KB a small passport image still stays readable if the source photo is clean and well lit. The tool searches for the highest JPEG quality under your target, so it maximises sharpness at any size you set.
Can I upload the same file for both photo and signature on NTA forms?
No — the photograph and signature upload separately with different content and often different size rules. Process each with this tool: use the photo preset for the picture and the custom 3.5 × 1.5 cm size for the signature.
Tip: if your form also requires a photo with name & date, use the SSC Photo Maker.
